Welcome to Animations!
Animations is a quarterly online magazine run by the Puppet Centre Trust. It is a voice for contemporary puppetry and related arts, offering discussion and debate, reviews, and news from the puppet community and elsewhere – an essential read for anyone interested in puppetry in all its diverse manifestations. Animations Online aims to represent the full spectrum of professional practice, from traditional puppetry to experimental visual theatre using puppetry or animation.

Features for this edition are Moving Parts by Caroline Astell-Burt of the London School of Puppetry, which reflects on how Laban Movement Analysis can be applied to puppetry; Vision On, a report from the Manipulate Festival of Visual Theatre 2011, including an interview with artistic director Simon Hart; and a personal perspective on PCT’s Puppetry Snax, by participant Alexander Winfield.

The News section is the place to read the latest from puppeteers and puppet-theatre companies, venues and festivals, and also to catch up on training opportunities and events. We include a special news item on the recent Arts Council England National Portfolio decisions. Our Editorial includes reflection on these decisions, and the impact on UK puppetry and visual theatre.

Our Reviews section includes the London International Mime Festival 2011 and Shona Reppe’s appearance at the Barbican.

In the PCT Director’s Letter you can learn about recent Puppet Centre Trust activity and future plans.

Should there be anything you’ve missed in previous editions, please take a look at our Archive, which has a user-friendly Search facility.
