A letter from PCT’s Director

The year is speeding by. Both Emma, PCT’s Administrator, and I have been in post for one year now.

Much of our recent time in the PCT office has been taken up with organising the ‘Big Ideas’ conference which is taking place 7 & 8 October at the new UK Centre for Carnival Arts in Luton. There will be many workshop opportunities for artists, producers and programmers at the conference. At the time of writing this, we have already sold over half our delegate places.

As well as all this activity, we have presented a ‘How to session’ called Grappling with Grants and Battling Budgets, focusing on grant writing and fundraising. It was hosted at BAC with Tim Burley, head of development for BAC, as our workshop leader giving very useful tips and an up-to-date picture of the trusts, foundations and grants situation. For more on this do have a look at my article on Fundraising in this edition of AOL.

On 19th October, 2-6pm, PCT in collaboration with Theatre Bristol will be hosting a ‘How to’ session at Bristol Old Vic on PR and Marketing. The speakers include

  • Megan Farrow, head of marketing at Tobacco Factory Theatre
  • Sarah Peterkin, director of live and theatre co-director at Take Art
  • Rachel McNally from Bristol's Puppet Place, the Bristol Festival of Puppetry and Full Beam Visual Theatre

So if you are in the West and cannot get to London for some of our sessions, do check out this opportunity.

In the latest round of Travel and Training Bursaries, the following were successful:
Matthew Jackson (independent artist, London), John Parkinson (Upfront Gallery, Penrith, Cumbria), Bronia Evers (London) and Pete Gunson (Pif-Paf, Sheffield). Regretfully the fund for 2010 is now closed.

Our graduate residents continue to develop their new work. Keep an eye open for their end of year showcase which will take place in early February 2011.

People are always ringing the office for information on companies. So please do keep us up-to-date with your latest works and where they can be seen.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our events or hearing from you online.
