Welcome to Animations!

Animations is a quarterly online magazine run by the Puppet Centre Trust. It is a voice for contemporary puppetry and related arts, offering discussion and debate, reviews, and news from the puppet community and elsewhere – an essential read for anyone interested in puppetry in all its diverse manifestations. Animations Online aims to represent the full spectrum of professional practice, from traditional puppetry to experimental visual theatre using puppetry or animation.

In the Features for this edition, Penny Francis offers an invaluable guide to the aspiring object animator, Preparation, education and training for the 21st century puppeteer; artist Isobel Smith gives us a revealing behind-the-scenes insight into Puppetry Snax 2 in her Insider's Story; and street theatre experts Pif-Paf reflect on some of their past and present work in Puppetry the Pif-Paf way.

The News section is the place to read the latest from puppeteers and puppet-theatre companies, venues and festivals, and also to catch up on training opportunities and events. This issue we include a special news item to cut through the morass of shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

In our Reviews section this quarter we look at work from such companies as Loco7 Dance Puppet Theatre Company, The Suitcase Royale, and Alina Ibragimova & The Quay Brothers.

In the PCT Director’s Letter you can learn about recent Puppet Centre Trust activity and future plans – this time with a focus on workshops.

Should there be anything you’ve missed in previous editions, please take a look at our Archive, which has a user-friendly Search facility.
